Pointless is a daytime television show that first hit the television industry on 24th August 2009 and is currently being aired on BBC 1 at 5:15 every weekday after making the step up to the big time from BBC 2. The show has kept the same presenters, namely Alexander Armstrong and his "Pointless friend" Richard Osman, since the dawn of the show, presumably because they now realise they could no longer live without it.
The aim of the game is to score as few points as possible by giving a correct answer to a question that not many of the public have given meaning the ideal score to get is 0 points, hence the name of the show, Pointless. If any player scores a Pointless answer then £250 is added to the jackpot for a pair of players to win at the end of the show. If a player gives an incorrect answer then they score the maximum of 100 points. The players who reach the final are given the honour of taking home the Coveted Pointless Trophy regardless of whether they win the jackpot or not. To win the jackpot the pair must give 3 answers to a question and one of the answers has to be pointless.
Alexander Armstrong is the main host of the show and it is he who does the majority of the talking to the contestants and asks them the questions. However, it is Richard Osman who gives the show its real popularity and is the fan favourite. He often makes observational jokes that regularly have the audience laughing uncontrollably as he analyses the answers at the end of a round. His place on the set is undeniably behind his desk and viewers are often quoted as saying their dream is to see Richard emerge from behind his desk and stand in the middle of the set exposing the lower half of his body to the audience and the television cameras. This would indeed be a momentous event were it to happen.
